What's in a name?
Suzanne and I spent many months choosing an appropriate name for our intended. We
didn't know if our child would be a boy or girl. We had selected the boys name -
Adam Jean-Luc, but hadn't selected a girls name. Suzi was convinced AJ was going to
be an AJ anyway.
Why Adam?
We chose Adam really because of me. We felt he needed a strong name that would
stand up to the test of time and the test of the human spirit. My life has had it's
roller coaster moments, but I've always come out on top. So Adam Junior has a role
model. Hey I got the best Wife and Kid anyone could ask for - it wasn't easy!
Why Jean-Luc?
Some people have strongly criticised us for this. We chose Jean-Luc because both
Suzanne and I admire the Character of Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS-Enterprise.
Yes - Star Trek: The Next Generation. We have most of the series on Video.
We felt the role model Captain was perfect. AJ would be able to watch video
tapes of many situations that call for cool, calm and collected decision making.
Most of the TNG episodes have some underlying message about social behaviour and
interaction with people who are "different" but really are just the same.
Now he had a Real Life role model and a near perfect Fictional Model.
Adam is known as AJ because we felt the use of his initials (Adam Junior or Adam
Jean-Luc) would give him strength.
Affectionate Names
AJ has had a number of affectionate names.
From Birth to around 4 months he was constantly called Munchkin.
Well his size helped him fit that description really well. He still today
gets called Munchkin, but not as much as ...
Gromit. This name was phased in around 3 months
and is still used extensively today (1 Oct). He got the name because he always
laughed and smiled after a Breast Feast and funny enough a little posit would always greet
us. He also got his hands in motion early and discovered the joys of Gooey things!
Oct 98 AJ is starting to be called Monster. I know this
is very original. Even my Baby Photo Album has a title "Our Monster" so it
must be something that all parents find cute. We started the Monster nick around 5
months. He gets called Monster every time he grumbles and wants
attention. Only Gormit is for Feeding time! It's pronounced a bit like a Frogs
Ribbit sound. It makes him laugh.
1 Nov 98 - AJ has a new nickname. This one comes from wriggling all the time
whilst breast feeding in bed. Oh and when held he always twists from side to side. Wriggle
Worm has got to describe him almost perfectly.
Christmas brought about a special name: Tooth Monster Oh yes -
Top right, then bottom right, then top left and bottom left all in three days!
Christmas day Boxing day and the next day.
Spider has been his name since AJ really started to power along.
Over Jan and February he really picked up his knees! (Literally to avoid scratching
on the tiles!)
I'm sure there will be more names to come. And we'll add them as they arise.
